Congratulations to winners of the 2020 Encore Star! Online Contest
When Music Matters launched its first Online Contest in 2017, it was to give young piano students a platform to perform and be acknowledged for their efforts. Just by submitting videos of students who are learning from the Encore program made it easy for everyone to participate.
Little did we know, going online would become a norm when the pandemic took place. Now more than before, the online contest is fast becoming a vital platform in bringing people together to celebrate their students' learning progress.
Teachers shared how the experience of taking part in the online contest have given their students more confidence and motivated them to look forward to the next lesson.

First the videos are to be submitted to us by 20th Sept 2020. Videos would then be sent to Encore Australia for deliberation by Mark Gibson, Morna Robinson and their team. Results will be announced by mid Oct 2020.
In the past, winners and their family were notified of the results and invited to attend the Singapore Encore Concert where they got to meet the composers of the Encore program; Mark Gibson, Morna Robinson and their families.
We were also treated to a special piano performance by Joanna Gibson, and her composer dad, Mark Gibson with pieces such as Rhapsody in Blue by Gershwin. For some of the participants, this was their first experience in going to a piano concert.
Winners were also awarded a medal and given an opportunity to perform their winning piece, and every participants got to receive a certificate of participation prepared by Encore Australia.
However, due to restrictions for social gathering, we will not be holding a physical concert for this year. Instead, we will host an online event where all winners are invited to perform live online. As we will be including participants from Malaysia and Indonesia, this event is set to cross borders and bring us even closer together!
This contest is open to every teacher in Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia who has and is using the Encore syllabus in their teaching.
